Custom decks designed around your home
A good deck starts with how you plan to use it. Morning coffee off the kitchen, a dining area for summer dinners, a spot for the grill, steps down to the yard — we lay out the size, shape, and height around the way your household actually lives outside, then build it to fit your home and your lot.
Monty Construction has been building in the Twin Cities since 2002, with more than 30 decks completed. Every project starts with a free on-site consultation and a clear, itemized written estimate before any work begins.
Wood or composite: choosing the right decking
We build with cedar, pressure-treated lumber, and composite decking from brands like Trex and TimberTech. Cedar and treated lumber cost less up front and have a classic look, but they need regular cleaning and sealing to hold up. Composite costs more at the start, resists fading and splintering, and mostly just needs an occasional wash. We'll walk you through the trade-offs honestly so you can choose what fits your budget and how much upkeep you want.
Built for Minnesota winters
Freeze-thaw cycles are hard on outdoor structures. That's why we set footings to frost depth, frame to code, and pay close attention to the details that keep water out — ledger flashing, joist protection, and proper board spacing. Where the design calls for it, we use hidden fasteners for a clean surface with no exposed screw heads.
Railings, stairs, and outdoor living upgrades
Railings and stairs shape how a deck looks and how safe it feels. We install cable, aluminum, composite, and wood railings with code-compliant stairs. To finish the space, we can add pergolas, privacy screens, lighting, and built-in benches.
